Balmoral, a division of Balmoral Group, provides surface and subsurface buoyancy, insulation and elastomer products and services to the global energy, defence, subsea communications and oceanographic industries.

We are recruiting for a Quality Advisor within the Quality, Health, Safety and Environment Department. 

The role entails providing support to the business for all Quality Assurance activities including the effective maintenance of Balmoral Comtec Integrated Management System (IMS).

The job holder shall ensure that significant issues are appropriately investigated, ensuring lessons are identified and verified as part of internal audit arrangements and incorporated as best practice.

The job holder must be able to pro-actively and effectively communicate and collaborate at all levels across the business including clients and supply chain and demonstrate an enthusiastic approach to resolving problems.

It is also expected that the individual appointed is pro-active, in that the jobholder is expected to contribute to our aim of continuous improvement by advising on the operation of our QHSE systems and processes, reporting any issues to line management as appropriate.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOBHOLDER

  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication to ensure objectives are met and develop good working relationships.
  • Use and comply with the Balmoral systems, processes, and tools - challenge and improve our management systems, processes, and tools.
  • Actively promote and encourage continual improvement- seek best practice and identify improvements from within and externally.
  • Identify, develop, and execute programmes aimed at promoting QHSE performance within the business. Focus on differentiators that will produce positive results.
  • Encourage collaboration and sharing across the organisation – communicate information, seek feedback and act accordingly.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Support Enquiry Review activities ensuring Client/ Project Quality requirements are evaluated, understood and responded to in a timely manner including client questionnaires - highlight exceptions and/or clarifications as appropriate.

Promote the continued development and improvement of the IMS and ensuring the IMS continues to meet the requirements of applicable management system standards e.g., ISO 9001, API Q1.

Provide support to QC Inspectors, assist client inspection activities where appropriate.

Identify improvements to inspection systems and processes including the use of technology e.g., inspection equipment, real-time inspection reporting.

Provide information, instruction, and training to ensure product and/or material non-conformances are identified and segregated from use until dispositioned and documented information retained.

Ensure that remedial actions to address product and/or material non-conformances are verified prior inspection release and inspection statuses are updated accordingly.

Ensure that product identification and traceability is maintained to support Client/Project requirements.

Regularly review and agree inspection reporting requirements with projects and manufacturing, ensuring documented information is retained

Ensure monitoring and measurement devices are calibrated and maintained and documented information is retained

Ensure damaged/faulty monitoring and measurement devices are segregated from unintended use and the repair and recalibration or destruction is approved as appropriate

Attend Client/ Project meetings as required to support project or operational requirements

Support the periodic review of Project Quality Plans and/or Inspection & Test Plan templates.

Support the supply chain department in the maintenance and development of new and existing suppliers and sub-contractors including supplier qualification and performance monitoring.

Conduct risk-based audits, to verify compliance to requirements including Client/Project, legislative or regulatory, ensuring documented information is retained.

Identify and share audit outcomes, ensure improvements are agreed and communicated in a timely manner.

support second - or third - party audits including Client/ Project audits, certification audits and product approvals audits.

Provide information, instruction, and training to ensure Customer Complaints and NCRs are managed in a timely and effective manner including the root cause investigation and (corrective) actions to prevent recurrence are agreed.

Verify the effectiveness of (corrective) actions to prevent recurrence prior to closure ensuring documented information is retained.

Monitor, measure, analyse and communicate Quality performance and recommend actions to prevent recurrence ensuring documented information is retained.

Participate in Project Lessons Learned reviews, ensuring lessons are identified, shared, communicated and learned.

Verify the effectiveness of historical corrective actions e.g., during internal audits ensuring documented information is retained.

Qualifications

Required:

QMS Internal Auditor

Desirable:

  • Professional quality management qualification e.g., CQI Diploma, MSc in Quality Management or equivalent.
  • QMS Lead Assessor.
  • Professional membership e.g., IOSH or CQI, or equivalent.
  • Suitable sciences, engineering or business qualification e.g degree or HNC

Experience

Required:

  • Relevant previous experience within a similar role.
  • Practical application of management systems models, standards, and associated terminology e.g., ISO9001 or equivalent.
  • Understanding of root cause analysis tools and techniques, e.g., Ishikawa, 8D, 5Why.
  • Proven experience and capability in leading root cause investigation and application of root cause analysis methods.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry technical codes and standards, e.g., BS EN 10204
  • Knowledge of mechanical/ metallurgical testing principles, e.g., radiography, NDT/NDE.
  • Understanding of national calibration requirements e.g., UKAS certification requirements.

Desirable:

  • Relevant previous experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Practical application of applicable UK HSE legislative/regulatory requirements.
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining business management systems.
  • Experience of leading and coordinating third party certification audits activities.

Skills

Required:

  • Ability to read manufacturing/geometrical drawings.
  • Proficient in the use of the latest version of Microsoft Office.
  • IT skilled with data input / handling experience and working with databases.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Able to work independently using own initiative and as part of a team
  • Organised, analytical and systematic with an enthusiastic approach to problem solving.
  • Self-motivated and able to work under pressure and prioritise workloads.

  • Able to build and continually cultivate relationships with key suppliers and manufacturing team.

TRAINING

Required:

  • QMS Internal Assessor/ Auditor trained.

Desirable:

  • Introduction to Quality Management Course.
  • Incident investigation and/or root cause analysis training
