Balmoral Tanks Ltd is a leading European engineering design and manufacturing company. As a result of significant investment in people and plant, the company produces what is believed to be the most comprehensive range of tank products available for a single source in the EU.

We are looking for a Senior Buyer to join our team who will report directly to the Operations Director, the role will be to further develop and execute a centralised purchasing system and deliver a strategy for specific supply chains into Balmorals Tanks division.

Ensure all material requirements are communicated effectively and are in line with manufacturing planning and quality expectations and needs - to develop and drive “Best Total Cost” to ensure set business KPI’s are achieved.

You will be responsible for mentoring and supervising a purchasing team, ensuring their targets are delivered on time and in full (OTIF) and to the needs of the business.

Working closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to develop cost saving strategies, you will develop and implement category based sourcing strategies while leading supplier negotiations in order to gain significant business cost savings, Continuous Improvements and Profit.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor and review Purchasing/Materials Management procedures
  • Assess and, where appropriate, set up central framework purchasing agreements
  • Implement performance measurement system for key suppliers.
  • Ensure Approved Vendor Listing is updated
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with suppliers
  • Assist Customs team leader with compliance in customs and excise procedures and requirements
  • Maintain terms and conditions with suppliers
  • Control supplier documentation files
  • Ensure relevant areas within the company operating system are updated and maintained
  • Produce and analyse relevant reports
  • Liaise with Planning Manager on stock levels and lead times from key suppliers
  • Develop and maintain a key and secondary supplier database for critical materials and components 
  • Staff Development
  • Communicate with team regularly and co-ordinate work loads.
  • Assist with deciding upon which suppliers require to be audited and on occasions be part of the audit team

Requirements and performance Measures

  • Previous Purchasing / Buying / Procurement experience is essential – ideally this will be in a Manufacturing environment.
  • Awareness of factors such as sustainability, risk management and ethical issues
  • Experience in supervising or mentoring a team.
  • Excellent negotiating skills.
  • Experience to working within a Project driven environment to tight deadlines and under pressure
  • Excellent IT skills; MS Office,
  • Excellent planning / Organisational skills
  • Ability to build strong internal cross functional relationships and develop strategic external partnerships.
  • Willing to travel within the UK and potentially Europe.
  • Record and monitor delivery performance of suppliers.
  • Delivery performance of suppliers

  • CIPS qualified

Experience

  • Minimum three years purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Awareness of lean manufacturing principles
  • Sound commercial awareness
  • Experience of leading a team
  • Experience at strategic policy development level.
